Gilla Band return with Giraffe and bring the beautiful discomfort back

Gilla Band are not the kind of group that politely re-enters the room. Their new single Giraffe marks their first new music in years, and it arrives with the anxious electricity that has made the Dublin band such a singular force in modern noise rock. The track comes with surreal animated visuals and a long run of tour dates, but the real story is the sound: twitchy, uncomfortable, strangely physical and still somehow full of emotion.

Gilla Band's best work has always made alienation feel almost athletic, as if the body is trying to keep up with a brain that has gone off-road. Giraffe continues that tradition. It does not smooth out their edges or turn the band into a festival-friendly post-punk product. It keeps the awkwardness, the tension and the weird little flashes of tenderness that make the chaos land.
